Lorna McLaren
Originally from Dundee, Lorna McLaren studied violin with Roger Raphael and piano with Miles Coverdale at the RSAMD before joining the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in 1973.
In 1979 she joined the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and in the mid-eighties became a member of the string quartet Quartz founded by SCO violist Steve King. Their pioneering educational work took them all over Scotland and beyond including England, Ireland, Paraguay and Brazil with appearances on UK radio and television.
She has played with all the professional orchestras in Scotland and has broadcast with various chamber ensembles including the New Music Group of Scotland and the Scottish Early Music Consort playing baroque violin and rebec.
Throughout her career she has been involved with teaching and orchestral coaching and has been a regular guest at the Lochaber Music School.
Away from the orchestra she enjoys hill-walking, skiing and sailing and completed the ‘Munros’ in 1994.
