A Boundary-defying Musical Adventure
15 Oct 2022
News Story
What are you doing on the weekend of the 29/30 Oct? Dooking for apples or going guising? Or maybe you’re planning on switching the lights off and pretending you’re not home for trick-or-treaters.
Well, we have a better idea for you. Join the SCO and friends for UN:TITLED - an informal, inspiring gig that mixes musical styles and defies conventional boundaries.
A New Concert Experience
Hosted by Gemma Cairney, UN:TITLED is a new concert experience taking place at Summerhall (29 Oct, 8pm) and Saint Luke’s (30 Oct, 8pm) featuring works by Steve Reich, Gabriella Smith and Andy Akiho performed live by SCO players, with special guests DJ Dolphin Boyand cellist Simone Seales.
The SCO Ensemble performs Steve Reich's mind-bending, minimalist music, delivering driving rhythms thorugh his hypnotic and sonically sumptuous Double Sextet. The SCO Ensemble performs two works by Californian composer and environmentalist Gabriella Smith, inspiring wonder for the natural world in the fresh, organic growth of her trance-like Maré and Tessellations.
US composer and steel pan virtuoso Andy Akiho is at the cutting edge of US music, but not so well known in Europe (yet). Discover the looping grooves of his 21 for cello, marimba and electronics performed by SCO players.
Welcoming Simone Seales and Dolphin Boy
We're excited to welcome cellist and performing artist Simone Seales to UN:TITLED. Simone is passionate about exploring sound and how it can reflect emotional states of being. They're going to be kicking the evening off with a solo set that'll include some audience-inspired improvisations.
DJ Dolphin Boy, aka Andy Levy, brings a new spin on UN:TITLED's live works, reinterpreting and reworking them, and weaving an exciting electronic soundscape across the evening.
