We are delighted to announce the appointment of Andrew Manze to the position of Principal Guest Conductor.
A regular and much-loved collaborator of the Orchestra's since 2006, Andrew has explored repertoire from the Baroque and Classical eras right up to the present day with the SCO, including the world premiere of MacMillan's Horn Concertino (with then Principal Horn Alec Frank-Gemmill) in 2017. Beethoven's symphonies and piano concertos were especially prominent in the early days, giving way more recently to British composers such as Britten and Vaughan Williams. His association with the SCO has also borne fruit in a pair of Mozart concerto recordings with the Swiss pianist Francesco Piemontesi.
For his first Season as SCO Principal Guest Conductor, Andrew takes the helm for three concerts: the inaugural performances in our New Dimensions series, a programme combining Schoenberg and Mozart with the little-known Baroque composer Johann Heinrich Schmelzer, and finally Vaughan Williams' Five Mystical Songs and Fauré's Requiem with Roderick Williams.
