Chamber music recitals with the SCO

Join the SCO (and guests) for chamber music on Sunday afternoons ...
We like to think that one of the principal strengths of the SCO is the Orchestra's ability to play as a chamber ensemble, one in which individual players can respond to each other, creating seamless conversation as a close-knit group. The short series of chamber music concerts which we launch today takes this to the logical conclusion, reducing the number of performers to bring a sense of the truly intimate to the stage: you could really be dropping in on friends, and what better way to spend a Sunday afternoon?
Book all three Queen's Hall concerts and receive a 20% discount off the price of your tickets. Please note this applies only if booking for all three concerts at once, and that the offer is not valid to £6 tickets.
Side by Side: A Little Night Music
We open with a recital of music for wind instruments, with students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland performing alongside our own SCO players. After serenades by Mendelssohn and Strauss, we conclude with one of the jewels of more recent wind repertoire, Eleanor Alberga’s Nightscape, a depiction of evening turning into night in her native Jamaica.

Side by Side: A Little Night Music will also given at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow on Fri 18 November, with a slightly different programme. Click here for further information and to book tickets.
Brahms's Chamber Passions
Maxim Emelyanychev and his regular recital partner Aylen Pritchin lead the SCO strings in an overview of Brahms' chamber music. It’s often said that the best of his output is to be found in music for smaller ensembles, and here is the ideal opportunity to find out why. The concert culminates in the F minor Piano Quintet, by common assent one of the very finest works in the entire chamber music repertoire.

Transcendental Visions with Pekka and Sam
Pekka Kuusisto and Sam Amidon join the Orchestra again (as part of Pekka's residency), which you can be sure means you're in for a treat. The programme includes John Adams’ Shaker Loops and music from the American folk tradition, immediately promising something contemporary and exciting - exactly as anyone familiar with Pekka's musicianship will know to expect.

The SCO players excel at performing in such reduced numbers, and these chamber music concerts are invariably very popular, so check your diaries sooner rather than later!
