We launch the Summer Tour with the SCO Chorus guiding audiences to a higher plane in Perth (8 June) and Stirling (9 June). Conducted by SCO Chorus Director Gregory Batsleer, they explore the supernatural and metaphysical in a wide-ranging programme including a fine choral arrangement of Vaughan Williams' classic The Lark Ascending.

In another first, we are adding dementia-friendly performances to our Summer Tour. The Re:Connect Tea Dance Concerts will be performed in Glasgow (12 June) and Stirling (13 June), providing a relaxed atmosphere for people living with dementia (along with their families) to enjoy a host of favourites.

Putting the spotlight on contemporary music, from SCO Associate Composer Jay Capperauld to John Adams, the concerts also include premieres by the three young music creators in our Soundbox development programme. Join us in Edinburgh (15 June) or Glasgow (16 June) for an evening of dance music filtered through the lens of classical, pop, electronic, trad music and beyond.

The full Orchestra heads to Inverness (19 June), Thurso (20 June) and Findhorn (21 June) with a programme of French music, but not necessarily by the composers you'd expect: besides Fauré and Saint-Saëns, there are also gems by two female composers, Chaminade and Farrenc.

The Orchestra splits in late June, with the SCO Strings performing in Inverness (26 June), Stonehaven (27 June) and Haddington (28 June). Their programme explores the full breadth of the string repertoire, taking in Elgar and youthful works by Webern and Mozart before the gloriously rich sound of Tchaikovsky's beloved Serenade.

Maxim conducts the Orchestra at St Monans (30 June) in a mouth-watering programme for the closing concert of the East Neuk Festival. Initially at the piano for an improvised solo Fantasia and Mozart's Piano Concerto No 22, he then takes to the rostrum for Beethoven's Symphony No 7, a work as energetic as he is himself.

Viviane Hagner directs the Orchestra from the violin in Stirling (25 July), Stranraer (26 July) and Galashiels (27 July), in a lyrical programme alternating two composers. After the passionate outpourings of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, Schubert's Symphony No 5 is a sprightly homage to the spirit of Mozart.

St Andrews (11 September), Paisley (12 September) and Linlithgow (13 September) host the Orchestra for the final part of the Summer Tour. The programme takes in Wagner at his tenderest, Mozart discovering his affinity for wind instruments and the young Beethoven playing with conventions in his Symphony No 2.
