Charlie was brought up in Ayrshire and studied in Scotland, England and France. He holds a BSc (Econ) (Hons) in European Studies from the University of Buckingham.

Charlie is Executive Director, Investment at, the Edinburgh based global investment management firm, Walter Scott. Having joined the business in 1991, he has held a range of investment, management, client service and governance responsibilities and has had extensive experience of analysing companies around the world, particularly in Europe and Japan. Charlie has been a director since 2009 and is Co-Chair of the Investment Management Committee.

Other appointments have included being a trustee of the Orcome Trust, a Pentlands based charity and director of Didasko, the financial education charity. He is currently a trustee of the Jasmine Foundation a mental health charity primarily supporting young people.

Charlie lives in Edinburgh with his family and his hobbies include rowing, cycling and hillwalking.
