Eleanor Hudson
Harp
Eleanor Hudson entered Chethams School of Music to study the harp and piano, continuing harp at Royal Northern College of Music. After gaining a distinction in harp performance from the Royal College of Music she has worked regularly with Scottish Chamber Orchestra for almost forty years, performing the Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto with David Nicholson and more recently the Debussy Dances.
Before being appointed as Principal Harp of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Eleanor acted as guest principal harp for the Halle, Philharmonia, Opera North, BBC Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestras. She has also been lucky enough to work with performers such as Bill Bailey, Tony Bennett and Elvis Costello. Spending a season in Spain with the Malaga Symphony Orchestra she returned to UK to take up the Liverpool ‘Phil post. During her twenty years she performed numerous concertos, was part of the original 10/10 contemporary ensemble was committed to the education programme, leading her to retrain in music and mental health, leaving the ‘Phil in 2014 to pursue a more diverse and varied career.
As well as continuing a busy career as a performer Eleanor has devised and delivered music projects in secure mental health settings such as Ashworth Hospital. She has coached the harps on NYO and NYOS as well as tutoring harp at Chethams 2021-2022 and RCS 2022-2024. Eleanor now lives in Fife, Scotland where she enjoys walking swimming and kayaking in her spare time as well as running a community choir and teaching and accompanying on the piano.
