Francesca Gilbert was born in London and studied with Susan Thompson, David Takeno, and Matthew Jones at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In addition to having been recently appointed Sub-Principal Viola of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Francesca enjoys a varied career performing and recording regularly with orchestras across the UK and abroad, including the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Aurora Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Dunedin Consort and the Irish Baroque Orchestra.
Francesca is also in demand as a chamber musician, performing regularly with various ensembles and at international chamber music festivals. Some recent highlights have included collaborations with the Consone Quartet, Ensemble Hesperi, the Cambridge Summer Music Festival and the first edition of the Meteora Chamber Music Festival, Arnsberg.
