Born in La Orotava, Tenerife, Spanish clarinettist Maximiliano Martín combines his position of Principal Clarinet of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra with solo and chamber music engagements and masterclasses worldwide.
Martín has appearedas a soloist and chamber musician in many of the world's most prestigious venues including the BBC Proms, Cadogan Hall and Wigmore Hall in London, Library of Congress in Washington, Mozart Hall in Seoul, Laeiszhalle Hamburg in Germany, Slovenian Philharmonic’s Hall in Ljubljana, Durban City Hall in South Africa, Palau de la Música in Barcelona, Teatro Monumental in Madrid, Auditorio de Zaragoza, Auditorio de Tenerife, Auditorio Principe Felipe in Oviedo, Auditorio Alfredo Kraus in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Estonia Concert Hall in Tallin.
Highlights of the past years have included solo concertos with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, European Union Chamber Orchestra, Orquesta Real Filarmonía de Galicia, Orquesta Filarmónica de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias, Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra and Estonian National Symphony Orchestra with conductors such as Brüggen, Emelyanychev, Ticciati, Manze, Antonini, Swensen, Zacharias and González.
Martín performs regularly with ensembles and artists such as London Conchord Ensemble, Hebrides Ensemble, Maxwell and Casals String Quartets, François Leleux, Pekka Kuusisto, Alexander Janiczek, Llŷr Williams, Kris Bezuidenhout and Scott Mitchell.
His extensive discography includes Mozart and Weber Clarinet Concertos with SCO (LINN); Nielsen, Copland and MacMillan Concertos with Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and Macias ( DELPHIAN); Strauss Duet Concertino with Ticciati/Whelan (LINN); two recital discs Fantasia and Vibraciones del Alma (LINN); Mozart Divertimenti and Beethoven Wind Music with SCO Wind Soloists (LINN); Messiaen Quatuor pour la fin du temps with Hebrides Ensemble (LINN); Brahms Clarinet Sonatas with Julian Milford (CHR); Mozart and Brahms Clarinet Quintets with the Badke Quartet (CHR); two discs with London Conchord Ensemble, From Vienna (CHR) and St Petersburg (Orchid Classics); and a disc of Stephen Dodgson’s chamber music with Karolos Ensemble (NAXOS). His new recital disc Origineset departs (DELPHIAN) was released last year to great critical acclaim.
Martín is also active in the education field giving masterclasses in places like the Royal College of Music, Royal Northern School of Music, UC Davis University in San Francisco (USA) and Malmo Academy of Music in Sweden. Martin is Honorary Professor of woodwind at St Andrews University and was formerly visiting Clarinet professor at the University of Kangnam in Seoul, South Korea.
Martín is in constant demand as Principal guest clarinet with many of the world leading orchestras including the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, London Symphony Orchestra, the Halle, the City of Birmingham
Symphony Orchestra, The Royal Northern Sinfonia and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. He was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Spain and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester.
Martín is one of the artistic directors of the Chamber Music Festival of La Villa de la Orotava held every year in his home town. Martin is a Buffet Crampon Artist and plays with Tosca Clarinets.
