Shaun began his musical studies playing cornet with the local school brass band and was soon Principal Trumpet with the Wiltshire Youth Orchestra. Whilst studying with Colin Casson at the Welsh College of Music and Drama, he was regularly invited to perform with the BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra and many Welsh music societies. Shaun was honoured to receive the Harlech Television award in his second year of college.
Shaun then entered the Royal College of Music – the only trumpeter accepted that year for post-graduate study – where he was fortunate to have two notable professors in David Mason and Michael Laird. Shaun moved to Glasgow to take up a position with the Scottish Opera Orchestra where he met his wife-to-be, a singer in the company.
Shaun has played with many orchestras including the BBC Symphony, LPO, Orchestra of St Cecilia, Philadelphia Orchestra and LSO. Particular career highlights have been playing with the Grimethorpe Band whilst sharing the Piazza Stages with the local Circus, Police and Fire Brigade Bands at the Montepulciano Festival and a tour of Europe with Brass Band Spectacular.
Shaun is also a Plumber and has two musical sons, one a composer and the other a Rock Drummer.
