Sylvia Schwartz
Spanish soprano Sylvia Schwartz has made a name as one of the leading sopranos of her generation, combining a deep musicality with great lyricism and an exquisite eye for detail.
With a career made at many of the world’s finest houses and festivals, Sylvia has brought her signature verve and exacting taste to a variety of leading roles. An experienced performer at the peak of her powers, she is at home on the stages of La Scala Milan, Berlin Staatsoper, Wiener Staatsoper, Bayerische Staatsoper, Staatsoper Hamburg, Teatro Real Madrid, The Bolshoi Theatre and Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. Sylvia has also been a frequent guest of many international festivals, including Edinburgh, Baden Baden, Salzburg and Verbier. Recent engagements include Donna Anna Don Giovanni under András Schiff at the Felsenreitschule as part of Mozartwoche, Salzburg and Eurídice in Philip Glass’ Orphée for Teatro Real Madrid.
On concert and recital stages, Sylvia is much in demand, working alongside collaborative artists including Malcolm Martineau, Wolfram Rieger and Helmut Deutsch, as well as with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Philippe Jordan, René Jacobs, Fabio Luisi, Iván Fischer, Gustavo Dudamel, Marc Minkowski, Ivor Bolton, Jean Christophe Spinosi, Ludovic Morlot, Juanjo Mena, and Helmut Rilling.
In recent seasons, Sylvia has begun to explore more dramatic repertoire, including roles such as Micaëla Carmen, Cleopatra Giulio Cesare, Contessa Le nozze di Figaro and Fiordiligi Così Fan tutte. On the concert stage, Sylvia’s repertoire includes Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, Zemlinsky’s Lyric Symphony and Mahler’s Symphonies 4 and 8.
In the 2024 / 2025 season Sylvia performs the role of Jouvenot in Sir David McVicar’s production of Adriana Lecouvreur at Teatro Real and a series of New Year concerts with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
